Peter Leyden - New Media Engagement
Peter Leyden, co-author of the Sogeti book “Me the Media. Rise of the Conversation Society” is the CEO and founder of Next Agenda, a new way to solve America’s biggest challenges by bringing together exceptionally innovative people through facilitated gatherings outside Washington and collaboration online.
Diverse groups of experts and innovators are put through an intense six-month process that goes from brainstorming to narrowing down a final set of transformative ideas. Participants are being covered with multiple video cameras and open it up to a range of audiences initially on the web and eventually in a new form of serious Reality TV. This allows many more smart, creative people to be part of the solution and help transform America.
Throughout history mankind has experienced multiple paradigm shifts, multiple world historic transformations, deep structural changes. The one we experience today, the shift from the 20th century to the 21st will bring us:
- From national to global
- From carbon energy to clean energy
- From unsustainable to sustainable
We now are witnessing:
- Tectonic technology shifts
- Globalization of everything
- Climate change
- Decentralized terrorism
- Baby boom retirement
- Mass migration
. . . et cetera, which fuels an unprecedented sense of urgency, challenges and chances.
High on Peter Leyden’s Next Agenda is the Clean Energy Challenge, which attempts to tackle the all important question of how America can get all its electricity from clean energy as fast as possible.
The Clean Energy Challenge will help solve a big piece of one of the overarching challenges of this century – climate change. The goal of getting all America’s electricity from clean energy in as soon as 10 years is ambitious but doable – it’s just that we don’t know how to do it yet. That is why Next Agenda brings together unusually creative entrepreneurs and innovators to develop ideas on how they would approach the problem and get people thinking big.
Facilitating all this is our Media Paradigm Shift of the 2nd Internet Boom which brings us from low bandwith to high bandwith, empowering for instance a new politics paradigm (read ‘The Obama Moment,’ featured in the ‘Me the Media‘ book).
